The overwhelming questions about Sunblocks 🌞
Why you should wear sunscreen everyday?
I remember first time when i got introduced to sunscreen was during my University times as I noticed a bit of whitish tint on her face that didn't look bad and I asked her have you applied any cream on your face? And she said yes I have applied sunblock. I did not have any slightest idea about it back then and I ignored it. I did not take it seriously at all. I wish I had dig into it that time but *sighs* and you must have seen cricketers wearing this white cast kinda cream on their faces while they are in the ground under scorching heat (if you are a cricket fan), that's sunblock!
Even when I bought it, I didn't use it regualrly because I had a lot of questions in mind and I thought it needs to be put on only when we go out, that too, in summers.
Now when I got a bit interested in knowing the skin care science, first I got to know that skincare is not a walk in the park and you have to properly research and know about it first before starting it and second, that sunscreen is the backbone of skincare. Yeah you heard it right. Experts say no sunblock means no skincare. I didn't know it's that much essential so I just recently started using the sunblock that I had in my dressing table closet but was seldom used 😛
This quarantine gave me the chance to dig deeper into skincare science as I had decided self care as this year's resolution. So now when I have enough information about it. I feel obliged to share with you all too especially with those who are confused and have questions in mind related to it like I had.
So this blog is going to be all about sunblocks! And it will cover the topics like:
🔆Purpose of Sunblocks
🔆Do we have to apply sunblock indoors too?
🔆When to Apply it?
🔆What areas should be covered?
🔆Do we have to reapply it during the day?
🔆Types of Sunblocks.
🔆What does SPF means?
🔆What ingredients to look for while applying sunblock
🔆Which sequence should be followed if we apply cleanser, moisturizer, toner, sunblock etc as part of our skincare regime.
🔆How to remove it?
🌞 The biggest misconception that I had was that you only need to wear sunscreen when you go out and I used to forget a lot of times 😛. Nooooo, you have to wear it indoors and outdoors wherever light is coming and you have to apply it everyday whether you are in maika or susral, whether you are in the market or in the kitchen. I think I made it clear now 🤭
🌞 Purpose of sunblock is to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays as they are harmful for your skin and causes severe skin problems like pre-aging and skin cancers. You definitely wouldn't like to age before the right time so if you are in your 20's, that's the right time to start using it.
🌞 When to apply it?
When you wake up and go to washroom. Wash your face and moisturize it and then apply your sunscreen DAILY.
🌞 You should apply it all over your face, your neck, ears, hands.
🌞 Reapplying the sunscreen depends upon your condition as if you are outside and sweating a lot then you might need to reapply but if you are inside your home, there is not much need to reapply it.
🌞There are three types of sunblocks.
⛱️ Physical sunblock:
Physical or mineral sunblocks protects our skin from UVA and UVB rays. It creates a barrier between your skin and rays and this way doesn't let the rays reach to your skin by scattering them but it doesn't look cosmetically elegant or pretty over your skin as it leaves a white cast and your face looks unnaturally white. Zinc and titanium dioxide are said to be common filters that protect your skin from rays.
⛱️ Chemical sunblock:
Chemical sunblocks use chemicals but they doesn't provide as much protection from as mineral sunscreens do. It makes people question that if a chemical sunscreen doesn't provide the required protection then why companies even manufacture it and why people use it? The answer to this is that unlike physical sunscreens, they doesn't make your face unnatural whitish tint and they look cosmetically elegant on your skin and people just get the satisfaction that they have applied sunblock. Active ingredients of a chemical sunblock are avobenzone, oxybenzone and octinoxate.
⛱️ Hybrid sunblocks:
Now the hybrid sunblocks come to the rescue. Hydrid sunblocks have qualities of both mineral and chemical sunscreens. They are broad-spectrum as they protect from both UVA and UVB rays and also looks pretty good on your face.
🌞 What does SPF means?
SPF means Sun Protection Factor and it tells you for how much longer your sunscreen protects you from the rays. When you buy your sunscreen, make sure that it's at least SPF 30. It can be above that but not below spf 30
🌞 Essential Ingredients?
Your sunscreen must have Titanium Dioxide or Zinc or both as ingredients. These two are present in mineral sunblocks and these two makes the sunblock beneficial as these are told to be natural blockers and are not made in laboratory. Also, when you went to buy your sunscreen, look for the one that says it's broad-spectrum i.e. it provides protection from both UVA and UVB rays.
🌞 Place of sunblock in skincare regime?
People who are already following a good skincare routine, they question whether sunblock should be applied after moisturizer or makeup or before it. Experts suggest that sunblock should be the last layer that you apply on your skin to get it well protected but then again sometimes, it becomes difficult when we have to apply foundation too and wear makeup. In that case, you can use a foundation or moisturizer that contains SPF. If your foundation or moisturizer has spf or you are using a tinted sunscreen, then there is no need to seperately apply a sunblock.
🌞 Removing Sunblock.
It's essential to remove your sunblock or makeup if you were wearing it during the day, before you sleep. For it, you need to adopt double cleansing as part of your skin care routine at night. I think that requires a separate blog so let me know in the comments if you guys have any query related to this blog.
